Ramada Jarvis
Location: Hull
Project: Ramada Jarvis Hotel Ballroom
Brief: To create a multipurpose environment with total flexibility for two conjoined areas holding up to 550 people, attending anything from law exams to cabaret shows. Weddings are a particularly popular function and the colour-change setting of the LED circuits are a particularly good selling point because the bridal party can match the lighting to the colour scheme.
Lighting Concept: The main feature of the scheme is the series of nine Ø3m coffers which feature circular acrylic diffusers edge lit by LEDs and with fibre optic starlight in the centre. TFL International worked closely with LED specialist njo Technology to develop the fibre optic and LED lighting elements. Supplemental fittings from Intalite and iGuzzini are compact fluoscent downlight's (2x26W), low voltage diachronic spots and special effects lighting on recessed ceiling track Circuitry is designed for maximum control and flexibility, with a master switch in each of the stage areas. While designing a relatively complex and sophisticated system, great care had to be taken to ensure that its operation was as simple as possible, and that members of staff could easily master the controls and demonstrate them to clients, who may need to change the lighting during the course of their event.
Client's verdict: Paul Vincen, general manager, Ramada Jarvis, Hull 'TFL has created an infinitely flexible space that our customers are very impressed with. The unique lighting feature means that colours can be matched to anything from flowers to the bride's eyes. We've just enjoyed the first Christmas with the new facilities and it's been extremely successful. We've catered for more than 7,500 people in the conference and events suite'
